Powerland Electric ATVs: India's First Road-Legal EV Off-Roader

Powerland ATV (Powerland Agro Tractor Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.) isn’t just another startup out of Goa — it’s India’s answer to Polaris with a green twist. Launched in 2017, Powerland jumped ahead of the curve with the Tachyon 4x4, India’s first road-legal electric ATV. Boasting 50 hp and a torque-laden 800 Nm setup, this beast rides on four direct-drive hub motors and does 0–60 km/h in less than 4 seconds. That’s not a typo. With T3b and L7e certifications under its belt, the Tachyon is street-legal in India and Europe, and it’s already making waves across defense, agriculture, and the adrenaline-seeking crowd.

Tachyon 4x4: The Silent Powerhouse

At the core of Powerland’s electric dominance lies the 11 kWh lithium-ion battery and PMSM motor that powers the Tachyon. But it's the silence that really turns heads. No gearbox. No chain. No roar. Just smooth, clean torque delivered through whisper-quiet hub motors. Farmers love it for not spooking livestock. Soldiers use it for stealth patrols. And thanks to regenerative braking, hill descents are safer, range is extended, and maintenance is minimal. With a standard 100 km (62 mi) range and app-enabled diagnostics, this isn’t just a ride — it’s a mobile power platform.

From Goa to the Globe: Powerland’s Expansion

Powerland’s not just thinking local. With 300 orders in the pipeline, a new Goa factory on the horizon, and plans to produce 10,000 units annually, this homegrown brand is scaling fast. Already shipping to the U.S., Europe, and South America, 90% of Powerland’s demand comes from international markets. And it’s not just the electric game. Their diesel 900d models and 500cc petrol ATVs are still a hit in orchards and farms, offering a lower-cost, road-legal utility option for tough work in the field. It’s rare to see an Indian vehicle brand competing globally in such a niche — and succeeding.

Electric Performance That Rivals Giants

Take one look at the Tachyon's spec sheet and you’ll understand why it's not a toy. With a towing capacity of 750 kg and a four-foot width that threads tight trails with ease, it’s built for versatility. Compare that to the Polaris Ranger EV or Christini E-ATV, and the Tachyon delivers similar punch at a more wallet-friendly price. Sure, you give up some range compared to hybrids, but at ₹9.5 lakh ($11,400) in India and €15,990 in Europe, it’s a steal for what it offers. Factor in fewer moving parts and you’ve got lower running costs and fewer headaches in the long haul.

Custom Built for Defense, Adventure, and Agriculture

Whether you’re herding sheep or patrolling a border, Powerland's ATVs are up to the task. DRDO is already working with them on autonomous electric patrol vehicles, and adventure riders are raving about the torque and trail handling. The company doesn’t just slap on electric motors and call it a day — their builds include selectable eco and boost modes, disc brakes on all wheels, advanced suspension, and Bluetooth-enabled diagnostics. Even the diesel models come with CVT gearboxes and fly-by 4x4 systems, making them simple to operate but tough as nails when the terrain gets hairy.

Room to Grow, and a Few Hiccups

No new venture is perfect, and Powerland’s growing pains show up in delivery delays and scattered customer service complaints — mostly tied to its electronics retail arm. The 40-day wait time for the Tachyon can test patience, especially when the deposit hits 50%. Then there’s the relatively short 100 km range and 8-hour charge time, which might not cut it in remote or high-demand scenarios. But when you factor in the savings on fuel and maintenance — plus the eco-cred — the scales tip back in Powerland’s favor for a lot of buyers.

Standing Tall in a Tough Market

Going head-to-head with Polaris, Honda, and Can-Am isn’t easy, especially with their global reach and monster marketing budgets. But Powerland isn’t trying to outspend the giants — it’s outthinking them. By targeting underserved sectors like electric ATVs for farming and tactical use, they’ve carved out a lane that’s both forward-thinking and functional. The brand may still be growing, but its mission is clear: build reliable, sustainable, and high-performance ATVs that punch above their price. And so far, they’re doing just that — with grit, torque, and a Goan accent.
