How does it compare?
The KIA PV5 Passenger is hitting the electric van market with a solid combo of modularity, tech, and affordability. But it's not without company. In the midsize all-electric MPV segment, it goes wheel-to-wheel with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Mercedes-Benz EQT, Maxus MIFA 9, and Citroën ë-Spacetourer. Each brings a different flavor of family hauling or ride-hailing utility. So, how does the PV5 stack up where it counts?
Range
With a 71 kWh battery offering 249 miles (400 km) of WLTP range, the PV5 Passenger lands squarely in the middle of the pack. The ID. Buzz gives 263 miles (423 km), the Maxus MIFA 9 flexes with a hefty 273 miles (440 km), while the smaller-battery Mercedes EQT tops out around 175 miles (282 km), and the ë-Spacetourer clocks in at a modest 143 miles (230 km). For most daily users or urban mobility operators, Kia’s range strikes a practical balance without range anxiety or excess battery bloat.
Acceleration
Powering the front wheels with 161 hp (120 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), the PV5 delivers a 0–60 mph (0–100 km/h) sprint in the 8–9 second zone. That’s quick enough to avoid embarrassing merges. The ID. Buzz comes close with a 9.9-second run, the EQT is more leisurely at 11.2 seconds, and the ë-Spacetourer feels bus-like at 13 seconds. Only the Maxus MIFA 9 beats Kia here, clocking 8.5 seconds thanks to its 245 hp punch.
Power
The PV5 pulls 161 hp (120 kW), a middle-ground figure in this class. The ID. Buzz steps ahead with 201 hp (150 kW), while MIFA 9 dominates at 245 hp (183 kW). The EQT offers 121 hp (90 kW), and the ë-Spacetourer rounds out the list with 136 hp (100 kW). For a family hauler or city van, the PV5 has enough juice to keep the ride smooth and responsive without overdelivering on performance.
Charging Time
At 150 kW DC fast charging, the PV5 juices from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes—solid for a vehicle of its size. ID. Buzz needs around 30–35 minutes, while MIFA 9 takes closer to 40 minutes with its larger pack. The EQT and ë-Spacetourer both hover in the 35–45-minute zone due to lower charge speeds (around 100 kW). Kia delivers fast charging that fits into a lunch break without keeping you waiting.
Price
The PV5 Passenger kicks off at $45,000 (€42,000), which undercuts the ID. Buzz (from $55,000 / €51,000) and Maxus MIFA 9 (near $62,000 / €57,500). The Mercedes EQT starts at a similar $47,000 (€44,000), and the ë-Spacetourer remains the budget champ at $39,000 (€36,000). But with more tech, better range, and a flexible interior, the PV5 brings maximum value-per-dollar in a market that too often overprices function.
